Now Sapphire
Our Choice
We choose to spend our vacation over Christmas at Now Sapphire located near Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The resort is a great value for your vacation dollar. Now Sapphire is a family friendly all inclusive resort and boasts an excellent kids club.
Arrival
Upon arrival, we are greeted with drinks and cold towels. The architecture of the resort is beautiful. The lobby area and most of the restaurants are open air and therefore do not have air-conditioning. Since our room is not quite ready, staff store our bags at reception, and we begin our vacation. Traveling frequently, we always pack extra clothes in our carry-on or personal bags so that we have access in these situations. In this instance, our swimsuits are available, so we change into them as we begin to explore the resort. After looking around, we eat lunch at the beach restaurant and enjoy the pool for an hour or so. We are notified that our room is ready and escorted by staff to find our luggage waiting in our lovely and comfortable room.
Pools
There are two pools at Now Sapphire. The huge pool within view of the beach is open to everyone. The large swim up bar is busy during most of the hours it is open. There is music and various activities at this pool throughout the day. There are numerous Bali beds that are available by reservation. TIP; Reserve Bali Beds as soon as possible.
The second pool is reserved for adults only! The adult pool is secluded by a line of trees which help to decrease noise. It’s serviced by a bar and servers and we find it to be very relaxing. While on vacation with your child(ren), this oasis is excellent and needed from time to time!
Activities
We travel a lot and when you have children a great kids club is priceless! Our daughter loves the kid’s club at Now Sapphire! The staff is great with the children and our daughter attends multiple activities daily. The staff makes sure that the children enjoy their vacations as much as the parents. During the evenings, there are multiple activities to choose from. The shows are great and we enjoy shopping with the local vendors on site during special evenings.
One afternoon, we sign up for the bicycle ride into the town of Puerto Morelos. Once in town, we walk around the pier, shop, and take some pictures.
During our stay, we agree to have our pictures taken by the staff photographer. Initially, we are unsure of this decision and concerned about the quality. They pictures turn out to be FANTASTIC! The photographer is very professional and highly skilled. The pictures are worth more than we paid.
Off-site excursions
To see some of the local sites, we choose to book a trip to Chitzen Itza. We generally book our tours through smaller local tour companies, and chose to book with Mayans Explorers. http://www.mayans-explorers.com For our full day tour, Mayan Explorers picked us up at the resort and provided a great day. We spend the day touring and learning about Chitzen Itza, Ek Balam, and Valladolid. After climbing, touring, and learning about Chitzen Itza and Ek Balam, we visit a Cenote. At the cenote site, we enjoy a delicious lunch and swimming in the cenote. Visiting a natural cenote and swimming in the cold water is great!
As we drive back to the resort, we stop to tour a small town, Valladolid. While here, we shop in various small stores and visit a beautiful church. in this town, we are able to get closer to authentic life in this area of Mexico.
To Conclude,
Lastly, there is seaweed all along the Yucatan Peninsula. There is nothing that humans can do to prevent this natural phenomenon. All of the hotels and resorts in this area have staff people who are constantly cleaning the seaweed from the beaches. It is not the fault of any resort, it’s just mother nature. We include this statement because we frequently read reviews where people complain about the seaweed being present on the beaches.
