Overview

The short ride from the Airport in Cancun to the resort is quick and mostly pleasant until you hit the unpaved road. After some jostling about, we arrive at El Dorado Maroma. This is an all-inclusive adults only resort near Playa del Carmen. The resort has a group of over water bungalows and 128 suites. There are some suites with swim up access, and we stayed in a beautiful junior suite with a garden view for our five nights. We thought it was very romantic. The resort boasts an excellent spa, a large pool with a swim up bar, and a smaller pool which also has a swim up bar. The staff here are warm, friendly, and very professional.

Food and Fun!

El Dorado Maroma has six excellent restaurants with delicious food at each and every one. The restaurants focus on various cuisines; Mexican, Beach Club, Italian, Peruvian, and Asian. Note that all restaurants are not open every night. You will want to get their schedule upon arrival so you can make sure to plan and visit them all. The Beach Club is where breakfast is served daily. The extensive Bloody Mary Bar is very impressive. Neither of us like tomato juice but the display makes it tempting.

At Dinner

There is wonderful and professional entertainment every night! For a resort of this size, I can honestly say this level of entertainment was unexpected. The acrobats are amazing. The beach fire show is also outstanding. The nightclub is really fun and has a pool table in a side room. As usual Corey is victorious at pool as we wait for the club to open. None of the nightly activities last late into the night. Everything closes by midnight, so there is not a hard partying atmosphere, which is perfect for us.

Beach Area

The Travel Channel ranks Maroma Beach as one the top 10 beaches in the world. The beach is beautiful and the sand is soft and powdery. There is a sand bar just offshore and helps the waters stay calm. Swimming, floating, and kayaking are excellent activities to enjoy during the day. We took a kayak over to the sandbar one afternoon to walk around. We highly recommend taking advantage of the kayaks which are provided by the resort.

While relaxing on the beach, you have access to cabanas with butler service which is excellent! Service is also provided at the lounge chairs. There is seaweed present on the beaches, but the staff works hard daily to remove it. The seaweed is a natural occurrence in this part of the world. It’s Mother Nature and there is nothing us humans can do about it being in the water.

The town

For a little adventure away from the resort, taking a taxi into Playa del Carmen is a good idea. Quinta Avenida is the areas 5th Ave. It’s a 3 mile pedestrian walkway with shops, bars, and restaurants. We shop for souvenirs, buy a few cigars, and have a fabulous lunch. Yo Heart Tacos (I Love Tacos) is a wonderful restaurant with excellent Mexican food. And we do mean EXCELLENT!! We ate and drank so much that we couldn’t have dinner.  The service of the staff and the delicious drinks are only second to the food.

Delicious food!!!

TIP: Don’t buy cigars from street vendors. They are most likely counterfeit. Buy from the true cigar shops with a humidor that are alongside the other stores.

Adios

As we conclude this post, we encourage you to stay at El Dorado Maroma when seeking an all inclusive adults only vacation in Mexico. This resort is top notch and exceeds our expectation. The staff in all areas are fantastic. The property is GORGEOUS. The resort is very safe. We are looking forward to visiting more El Dorado properties.

TIP: This resort is Adults Only. It is mostly couples. It is not a party resort that is geared to singles.
