Hello New Haven!

Visiting New Haven for five consecutive years has been phenomenal! Arriving in New Haven, you are instantly drawn into the atmosphere. Home to one of the world’s best educational institutions, Yale University, New Haven is an old small Connecticut city. New Haven has been a college town since 1718 when Yale relocated there. New Haven was the first city in the U.S. laid out in grid forming streets. Located between New York, NY and Boston, MA, New Haven is full of art and culture.

The City

While in New Haven, most of our activities are focused around Yale University and our son’s undergraduate education. Yale university campus is beautiful, but there are areas of New Haven which would be considered rough. As with most cities of the world, be aware of your surroundings and you will remain safe.

Eating and Sleeping

There is not a large number of hotels in New Haven, but several in nearby cities. Additionally, during Yale events like “The Game” or graduation ceremonies, the rates increase dramatically. The Courtyard by Marriott is located perfectly for walking to campus. Pepe’s pizza is wonderful! We suggest that you visit at opening or during mid afternoon. There may be a line during these off peak times, but it will be much more manageable than waiting more than an hour during peak times.

The food and atmosphere at Geronimo’s is excellent! Prime 16 is a must for burgers, sandwiches, and delicious sides.

If you are celebrating an event or looking for a more formal setting, Union League is fantastic! The atmosphere, food, and service are exceptional! Keep in mind that there are great dining options throughout New Haven.

Yale University

If you are close to this area of Connecticut, a campus tour of Yale is a must do! All of the architecture is amazing. Of particular note, Beinecke Library , The Sterling Memorial (Main) Library, and all of the Yale Museums are beautiful and full of history. If you plan to visit during Autumn, fly into Hartford, CT. The drive from Hartford to New Haven during Autumn is the most beautiful drive I’ve ever experienced. If you have an opportunity to attend “The Game”, Yale versus Harvard, plan to arrive early. Everything surrounding “The Game” is exciting, chaotic, and wonderful but the traffic is insane.
